Content of the game
In the late 19th century, Bengal became a major hub for the expansion of the railway network in British India, surpassing earlier developments in other parts of the country. The East Indian Railway Company took the lead in this effort and began construction of the Howrah–Hooghly line in 1854. Driven by strategic, economic, and export-related needs, the railroad network expanded rapidly throughout the region. By the end of the century, Bengal boasted one of India’s most extensive and important railway systems, which drove both trade and colonial control.rnrnIn Movers & Shakers, players take on the role of a railroad magnate in 19th-century Bengal and compete to transport goods, fulfill contracts, and invest their profits wisely. Over two strategic rounds, they transport goods between Benares and Calcutta using their own trains and those of their competitors, aiming to build wealth through smart planning and bold decisions.
