This is a remake of Nippon, a fast-paced economic game with territorial majority. Players control “Zaibatsu”: vast conglomerates of interconnected companies that power the Japanese economy during the Industrial Revolution.
During the game, players invest in new industries, build factories and railways, and produce goods to saturate local markets and fulfill contracts—all to increase their influence and power and become rulers of the new, modernized country. Players are free to choose their play style and winning strategy: They decide what to earn victory points for, control the pace of the game with income rounds, and compete for the most advantageous factories, markets, and bonuses.
All the core mechanics of the original “Nippon” are present, but the components, graphics, and design have been improved, and many gameplay features have been reworked to bring the game into line with modern trends. “Nippon: Zaibatsu” offers new resource types, ships have been completely redesigned with new Iwakura mission rules, factories are much more variable, Consolidation Rounds offer players new rewards, and much more. The game also now features an automated solo mode.
